Original lithograph titled "Prince Codadad" by artist Maxfield Parrish, in its original frame.
The illustration was originally painted around 1906 and served as a prominent color plate in the 1909 First Edition of Kate Douglas Wiggin and Nora A. Smith's adaptation of The Arabian Nights: Their Best-Known Tales, published by Charles Scribner's Sons.
This artwork titled "The History of Prince Codadad and His Brothers" (often referred to simply as "Prince Codadad" or sometimes "The Pirate Ship"
Created by the renowned American painter and Golden Age illustrator Maxfield Parrish.
Maxfield Parrish was celebrated for his unique technique involving layers of transparent oil glazes over a pure white base. This method produced an extraordinary luminous quality and incredibly vibrant color gradients—most notably his signature cobalt hue, famously known as "Parrish Blue." During the 1920s and 30s, his fantasy landscapes and literary illustrations were so wildly popular that it was estimated a quarter of all American households displayed his prints.
