The Goddess Kannon, also known as Kwan Yin or Guanyin) the Japanese Goddess of Mercy. She is often depicted on Satsuma ware with a compassionate expression, a golden halo (nimbus), and holding a sacred vessel or scroll. In Japanese mythology, she is a Bodhisattva associated with peace, solace, and compassion.
The dragon swirling around her is a common motif in Satsuma Moriage (raised enamel) pottery. It symbolizes power, protection, and good fortune this is Satsuma ware, a type of Japanese earthenware known for its ivory-colored crackle glaze and elaborate Satsuma vase that dates to 1868-1890 Meiji Period. It is extremely well done with The signature on it consists of the Japanese kanji characters 福山, which read as Fukuyama.The name Fukuyama (also sometimes read as Fukuzan) refers to a workshop or kiln active during the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods (late 19th century. This is signed in Japanese which dates it to the Meiji period. It has the Shimazu Family Crest on the shoulder, front and back, a sign of quality. The fine, crackled cream-colored glaze is characteristic of Satsuma ware, a type of Japanese earthenware. "Fukuyama" is the name of a specific studio, markings on Japanese ceramics from this era often indicated the workshop rather than a single individual.
