A masterful oak rocking chair — the celebrated "Razorblade" model — by Danish designer Henning Kjærnulf, representing one of the most distinctive and collectible forms to emerge from the Danish cabinetmaking tradition of the 1960s. The chair is upholstered with a generously proportioned bouclé seat cushion in natural ivory, its looped, tactile weave providing a luxurious textural counterpoint to the warm, deeply grained oak frame.
Kjærnulf remains one of the most compelling figures in mid-century Danish furniture — a designer who worked firmly within the guild cabinetmaking tradition while producing forms of genuine sculptural originality. The "Razorblade" model takes its name from the back's defining feature: a series of tall, slender spindles, each faceted along their length to create a sharp, blade-like profile that catches light with extraordinary precision. It is a detail that is simultaneously graphic and refined, and wholly unlike anything produced by his contemporaries.
The high crest rail is hand-shaped into a composed double-arch profile, its broad face revealing the rich medullary figure of quarter-sawn oak — a surface of considerable visual depth. Beneath, the shaped apron follows a gentle serpentine curve, lending the lower frame an organic fluidity that softens the architectural verticality of the back. The rockers are elegantly proportioned, terminating in subtly upturned feet that complete the silhouette with quiet authority.
The armrests sit low and forward in a manner that encourages a naturally relaxed posture. The pairing of ivory bouclé against amber-toned oak is a combination of considerable interior appeal — equally at home in a purist Scandinavian setting or alongside more eclectic, organic modern interiors. A rare and exceptional example. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
