This piece was recently acquired from an elderly gentleman that stated that it was purchased in the 1930s by his grandparents. It was then passed down to his mother and finally him. It is in good usable condition and looks fine from most all angles. There are signs that there was a restoration job performed in the past, and it recently received a more professional sprucing up. Top to bottom details: Aside from some typical wear, the back edge of the top was the only area found that one may want to address (or cover), as there is deterioration to the veneer. The rest of the top and vertical surfaces are very good with no damage and little wear. The underside of the lid is excellent, and the hinges look fine and function properly. The tray piece is in very good condition top and bottom, including the felt. The interior of the trunk is very good overall. There is no damage, little wear, and the cedar smell is apparent. The Yale lock is in fine physical condition, and the knob at the front functions as it should. There is no key included, as it went missing decades ago. The exterior front surface is fine overall with a nice finish. The only spot found is a break in the veneer at the front, right, lower, and upper corners where there is a tight bend. There is a pull-out tray at the base set up to store sewing supplies. It opens like a drawer, and the tray is removable. This tray piece is good for the age, but there is a little paint loss, and the drawer section is good overall. The right and left sides of the trunk are fine with light wear (more at the base; the front is also like that). The left side has a nice finish, and the right has varnish run lines at the top from a previous restoration. The back side is good overall with no damage or other issues. The bottom is fine overall, but the two drawer runners are broken at the front. There are metal "feet", and there are also blocks at the corners for mounting wheels if wanted. This is one of the recalled models where the lock needs to be removed to sell it. This will be done, and reassembly is quick and easy. Please see the pictures for further details.
