Yamayama rasta creates ridges, valleys, and contours that read, from a distance, like an aerial view of landscape.
Three tones — natural ivory, deep charcoal, and warm terracotta — move across the form in undulating horizontal bands, each one the result of separately dyed and prepared fibres woven in precise sequence. The coiling technique means each stripe was built up strand by strand, revolution by revolution, over days of continuous work by a single master weaver.
The result is an object that holds the marks of its making entirely on its surface. There is nowhere to hide imprecision in this form. Everything is visible, and everything is intentional.
