Bloom I explores the relationship between organic form and structural discipline. Woven entirely from sustainably harvested elephant grass using the traditional coil technique of Bolgatanga's master weavers, the piece builds outward from a narrow base into an asymmetrical, lobed body that appears to have grown rather than been made.
The shoulder of the work carries a bold terracotta and charcoal stripe — a signature marking of the Bolgatanga weaving tradition, here recontextualised as abstract gesture rather than decoration. The undyed body below it reads as raw material, earth, and time.
This is not a vessel made to hold things. It is a form made to be looked at — to sit in a room and hold space.
Woven by a master artisan of the Bolgatanga Artisan Collective, Upper East Region, Ghana. No two pieces are structurally identical. Each is a singular object.
