19th century marquetry dresser box from England.
This box is wonderful and the craftsmanship is stunning. The box is made of satinwood, and has marquetry and inlay made from mahogany, walnut, ebony and a brass plaque on the top of the lid.
The patterning is expertly executed, so we know this was a box not made by a novice. Inside the box, there is a removable tray covered in fabric, which appears to be original. Beneath the tray is a storage space for larger valuables. I have never seen a box with this coloring - it is a joy to see and would look good on any surface on which it is placed in a home or office.
