A beautiful carved wooden frame with square lugs at the corners, made in early 20th-century Spain.
It features a black wooden edge, a gilt wood inset, a black wooden counter-edge, and a mahogany-colored wooden rim. It is profusely decorated with vegetal and ornamental motifs, except on the innermost section. The lugs are a projecting ornament, like an ear or appendage, square or rectangular in shape, that protrudes from the corners of the frame.

The Alfonsine style is embodied in eclectic frames with lugs and ovals, featuring a strong presence of vegetal scrolls and festoons of laurel leaves or fruit in their decoration. See less
