Fantastically whimsical, Museum of Modern Life, 1990’s. White Pop Art Vintage Coiled Extension Cord Vase
Modernist, creative, joyful design to brighten up any interior, as it or enhanced with a spray of colorful flowers or a neutral arrangement of natural stems and twigs.
The vase has satin poly-rubber finish, similar to a real cord. It is in excellent condition.
The piece captures the California Funk Art movement of Claes Oldenburg, Robert Arneson and Jeff Koons, who re-purposed, ordinary, boring objects (like safety pins, clothespins, typewriters, and electric plugs) and recreated them as massive public monuments or soft, drooping fabric sculptures.
The California "Funk Art" movement revolutionized ceramics and everyday objects by moving away from traditional, functional pottery using glazed ceramic to create highly detailed, humorous, and literal sculptures of everyday objects—like typewriters, toilets, and soda cans.
