William Klein ( B. 1928 ) is an American born French photographer and filmmaker of a Jewish background. He is recognized for his ironic approach to both media and his extensive use of unusual photographic techniques in the context of photojournalism and fashion photography. originally trained as a painter under Fernand Leger, he has achieved worldwide fame as a fashion photographer and for his photo essays on various international cities, as well he is a director of feature films, documentaries and television commercials.

Klein's work was considered revolutionary in its time for its ambivalent and ironic approach to the world of fashion, and for its extensive use of wide angle and telephoto lenses, natural lighting and motion blur. Along with Robert Frank, he is considered among the fathers of Street Photography. Klein's long and prolific career has earned him many international awards.
