The writing desk is a one of kind furniture design by the late Michael Chung. There were only four pieces made. The pretty solid wood is well seasoned elm wood that was once lumber from an old temple. The design was inspired by a Ming Dynasty table from the 17 Century. It is a square cornered mitered construction with a moving panel that is the table top. The open apron is accented by a single raised beading. The side panels has beaded edges throughout. The finish is well done. The simplicity of form and elegance of style will be a useful and good looking piece of furniture in any room.
A note about the separation on the table top. It is a tradition to make the table top as a "moving" panel. The wood panel within the mitered frame allows the wood to shrink in winter and expand in the winter. The last two photos were taken in May, the size of the separation will be smaller later in the summer.
