The eye-catching “Bouloum” chair was designed by Olivier Mourgue and manufactured by Arconas in Canada in the 1970s. This unique, pop-art style chair in the shape of a person is fully upholstered in stretchy burnt orange fabric.
It has a zippered cover that can be taken off and washed; we have steam cleaned it (May 2026).
The very first Bouloums were produced in France by Airborne International from 1968 until about 1972. After that, production shifted to Canada under Arconas, a firm better known for its commercial and airport seating. While we can't say definitively whether this chair was made by Airborne or Arconas, the chair is extremely comfortable for lounging and quite a fun conversation starter as well. It remains an iconic piece of furniture and is easily recognized as one of Mr. Mourgue's famous pieces.
