An abstract etching by the Brazilian artist Arthur Luiz Piza (1928-2017). This etching features a spotted orange quadrilateral shape against a tan background. Held in a wooden frame against an off-white mat, this piece is signed to the lower right.
Arthur Luiz Piza was born in São Paulo in 1928, and began taking painting lessons from Antonio Gomide, the Brazilian modernist artist. Piza developed a love for different printmaking techniques, include intaglio and engraving, after taking part in the first São Paulo Biennale in 1952. The following year, he moved to Paris to train under Johnny Friedlander, an important figure in the printmaking world. Piza's career took off in the late 1950s, when he began to exhibit his work across Europe and back home, in Brazil. To this day, his work is shown in the Guggenheim in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the National Library of France.
