A turnkey piece of 19th-century Southern architecture, this striking 2-piece cast-iron fireplace summer surround and removable insert gate offers magnificent graphic appeal. Salvaged from a historic estate in Demopolis, Alabama, this set features a beautiful, clean semi-gloss black finish that beautifully highlights its crisp Victorian lines and intricate openwork.
Unlike solid single-panel inserts, this is an exceptional two-piece configuration. It includes a substantial, arched outer frame featuring an elegant scalloped bottom apron, alongside its original, completely removable summer gate insert. The insert boasts a stunning, high-relief geometric lattice pattern centered around a bold, radial rosette medallion.
Vented summer gates like this were used in historic Southern homes to maintain elegant hearth styling and allow airflow while keeping debris out of the house during the off-season. Measuring a highly versatile 27" high by 20.5" wide, this turnkey set is ready to be seamlessly integrated into a bedroom or living room hearth restoration, or styled as a dramatic piece of structural wall art.

The heavy outer structural frame is solid, crisp, and free of damage. In keeping with its authentic 19th-century age and genuine historic utility, the removable inner pierced gate shows a few clean, stable hairline fractures along the top rim and a missing bottom alignment tab (see detailed close-up photos). The gate still sits beautifully and securely within the frame for a flawless display. Recently painted gloss black finish., less
