Rare because When the strict printing ban dropped in 1686, Avignon and parts of Provence were actually under Papal territory (Le Comtat Venaissin), not French royal law.
Underground printers fled to these tiny villages to carve and stamp fabric safely outside Louis XIV's reach. Your block likely belonged to one of these early illegal or Papal-protected workshops.
