Lovely pair of antique early 1800s fruit botanical engravings, beautifully presented in charming antique gilt frames with delicate floral vine detailing, ready to hang and enjoy. These early fruit illustrations bring warmth, character, and old-world charm to both traditional and cottage-inspired interiors.
One engraving portrays two apple varieties and originates from Pomona Franconica, the renowned botanical work created by Bohemian naturalist and court gardener Johann Prokop Mayer between 1776 and 1801. Illustrated by Adam Wolfgang Winterschmidt, Pomona Franconica is admired for its finely engraved fruit studies and remains one of the most important German botanical publications of its era. This plate, numbered XXVI, features French-origin Reinette apples and was published in the third tome devoted primarily to apples and pears. The laid paper displays a partial I. Honig watermark when held to the light, adding another remarkable historical detail for collectors.
The second engraving is an 1809 Black Plum botanical print, a hand tinted German copper engraving from the horticultural publications of Friedrich Justin Bertuch of Weimar. Inscribed “Fruhe Schwarze Pflaume,” it showcases the fine detail prized by collectors of antique botanical and natural history prints.
Together, these framed engravings make a lovely decorative pair for cottage decor, French country, farmhouse, English country, or traditional interiors. Beautifully displayed in a dining room, breakfast nook, bedroom, kitchen, garden room, or gallery wall. Their warm palette of green, soft orange, black, and gilt complements a wide variety of decorating styles.
A thoughtful gift for gardeners, antique print collectors, fruit lovers, and admirers of botanical and natural history art. Especially lovely for cottagecore and farmhouse decor enthusiasts. Ships fully insured with tracking.
