"Childhood Memories" is a limited edition lithograph, hand signed in pencil and numbered 227/300 by the artist. The print depicts a solitary child with a hula hoop standing before a brick house, rendered in Balet's characteristic flat perspective and muted palette. The geometric simplicity of the architecture and the small figure create a quietly contemplative scene. Signed lower right, numbered lower left.
Jan Balet (German-American, 1913-2009) became renowned for his "contemporary primitive" or "naïve" style that explored complex themes with wry humor and poignancy. His work features stylized figures and architectural elements that capture what critics called "happy nostalgia"—a bittersweet reflection on memory and childhood. The deliberately simplified forms and dreamlike compositions give his prints an timeless, universal quality that resonates across generations. Includes certificate of authenticity and in good overall condition.
