Moon Jar _ LLUVIA
stoneware with glaze
The moonjar is one of the oldest vessel forms in ceramic history — round, deliberate, made to hold something. Lluvia begins there and then lets go. The white glaze was watered down and applied at angles, then left to move. Gravity pulled it across the surface in streams and rivulets, pooling where the form curved, thinning where it fell. The glaze gives the surface its aged, earthen quality — as though the vessel has been standing in weather for a long time. It has not. It was made by hand, in a studio in Chicago, by someone who knows when to step back and let the rain fall.
Handbuilt ceramic moonjar. White underglaze over dark clay body. 10 inches tall, 9 inches in diameter. One of a kind.
