The iconic se 42 chair, designed by egon eiermann in 1949 and manufactured by wilde + spieth, is considered one of the most important german post-war designs, combining technical precision with an exceptionally light and organic form. Characteristic features include the elegantly curved plywood surfaces and the flowing construction of the frame, which lend the chair an almost sculptural quality despite its clear functionality. The molded plywood seat and backrest ensure a high level of comfort and give the design its distinctive silhouette. The light gray lacquer finish is particularly striking on this example, further emphasizing the fine lines and curves. The visible screws and the sophisticated connection between the seat and frame underscore the design's constructive character. Its minimalist design allows the chair to be integrated into both modern and classic interiors, making it ideal as a dining chair, office chair, or accent chair.
originally developed for public institutions, universities, and architectural settings, the se 42 is now considered a key classic of german industrial design. The existing stamp on the underside indicates early use or inventory dating back to the 1950s.
