Born in Oakland, California, Pegge Hopper first studied art at the Los Angeles Art Center College of Design. Her first job was with Raymond Loewy Associates in New York, where she designed murals for department stores. She subsequently worked for La Rinascente for two years in Milan, designing posters and graphics.
In 1963, Hopper moved to Hawaii where she worked as an art director with an advertising agency. In 1970, after visiting the state archives and finding inspiration from the photographs found there, she dedicated herself to painting and pursuing a career as an artist.
Pegge Hopper has exhibited widely and with success including at The Contemporary Arts Center in Honolulu, Mauna Lani Bay Hotel, O’Grady in Chicago, Kimzey Miller Gallery in Seattle and at Parco in Japan. Her work is represented in many private and public collections including the permanent collections of the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, The Honolulu Advertiser and Contemporary Arts Center in Hawaii, American Hawaii Cruise Lines, the Bishop Museum, the Honolulu International Airport and the Pacific Club.
