A true collector’s piece, this exceptionally rare Model 6320 floor lamp was designed in 1953 by Wim Rietveld for Gispen, Culemborg, a pivotal work from his early and most experimental phase. with its striking form and minimalist rigor, this lamp exemplifies the rare harmony between industrial design and sculptural elegance. with its unique apperance and characteristic form its one of the highlites from Dutch fifties design. Where many designers copied others from other countries, Wim Rietveld was able to design something unique and different from any other lamp designed before. The black lacquered steel base, formed in the unmistakable silhouette of a grasshopper, anchors the lamp with both visual strength and dynamic posture. The white lacquered arm, adjustable in angle via a refined plastic joint, allows for versatile positioning, whether for ambient lighting, reading, or accenting a space. Its vibrant red painted aluminum shade, in very nice original tomato color typical for Gispen, adds a powerful note of contrast, elevating the piece to a work of functional art. Unlike the widely produced Panama 6322, the 6320 was made in very limited numbers and quickly phased out by 1955. It remains a rare find today, a testament to Rietveld’s design intelligence and a unique moment in Dutch industrial history. This is arguably Rietveld’s most sculptural and poetic floor lamp, combining architectural lines with mid-century charm. The lamp is in very good and fully functional condition, retaining the integrity of its original components with sympathetic restoration where needed. This piece is not just a lamp, but a design statement, ideal for discerning collectors, architects, or curators looking to enrich a space with authentic, museum-worthy 20th-century Dutch design.
