"Syncephalus twins" is a very rare type of conjoined twins, where the twins have two bodies but one head and one face. It's a very rare condition but does occur occasionally. This is an original model made circa 1860, and most likely by the French Physician Louis Thomas Jérôme Auzoux (1797-1880), who made human and veterinary anatomical models for medical schools.
The model stands on a brass and iron stand with an ornate base raised on four Rococo feet, the skeleton stands under a large glass domed cloche on a circular walnut base. Condition is very good, this rare 19th century model is ready to grace your collection.

A very similar skeleton model of Syncephalus twins is displayed in the Mütter Museum, Philadelphia.
