Mid-Century French Louis XVI Style Fruitwood Writing Desk or Vanity By John Widdicomb Co
This style was Ralph Widdicombe’s specialty; he was world-renowned for his French Provincial and Neoclassical designs.
Crafted from warm-toned fruitwood (likely cherry or mahogany), this piece features a classic kidney-style kneehole and seven functional drawers, providing ample storage without sacrificing its graceful silhouette.
It does show its age with some imperfections it has acquired over the years - small scuffs / nicks it still looks beautiful
True to the Neoclassical tradition, the desk is adorned with fluted corner pilasters and sits atop tapered, fluted legs ending in delicate ring turnings.
The drawer fronts are accented with sophisticated brass ring pulls and subtle inset paneling.
Whether used as a dedicated writing desk in a home office or a luxurious vanity in a primary suite, this piece offers a timeless European aesthetic that complements both traditional and eclectic interiors.
Drawers are all dove tail and slide in and out easily
It measures ~45.5" wide x ~20" deep x ~31" tall
Period: Mid-20th Century
Styles: French, Neoclassical, Louis XVI
