Fine large vintage Japanese 6-panel painted byobu (folding screen) "White Peacock & Peony" by Ryumin. Signed and sealed by the artist. The artwork is hand-painted on silk (nikuhitsu), depicting an elegant composition of white peacocks alongside blooming peonies in a traditional Japanese kachō-ga (bird-and-flower) style. The refined details and soft color tones create a graceful and luxurious atmosphere. Gouache, watercolor and ink on silk over paper. Silk border. Lacquered brown wood frame with reticulated metal corners and plaques. Fabric on back. Japan, Shōwa Era, circa 1950s. Very Good condition - minor age wear overall, not too visible repairs at the edge of the 1st panel Please view images #15 and #16), minimal staining, very minimal losses of silk, repair on back; extensive age wear, dents and rips on the backs of the exterior panels indicate long term storage of the artwork, without a storage box; strong hinges, clean, sturdy.
