Elegant and beautifully aged painted 4-panel silk Japanese Byobu (folding screen), depicts scenes of life from "The Tale of Genji" … Read more Elegant and beautifully aged painted 4-panel silk Japanese Byobu (folding screen), depicts scenes of life from "The Tale of Genji" novel by the noblewoman and poet, lady Murasaki Shikibu. Signed and sealed by artist. Very well done. Gouache, watercolor and ink on a high-grade Kawamata silk over paper. Silk border. Lacquered black wood frame with beautifully engraved copper corners, plaques and medallions, showing some age patina. Paper on back. Comes in a newer cardboard storage box. Handmade and had painted in Kyoto, Japan, Shōwa Era, in the 1970s. Very Good condition - minor age wear overall, some age wear and few touch-ups on edges of the panels (as it is shown on the third image to last), minimal foxing and staining, no damage to the back, the frame is in nearly excellent condition, strong hinges, clean, sturdy.
