An elegant and generously scaled French Louis XVI style bergère chair featuring beautifully detailed carved wood framing and exceptional figural Aubusson-style needlepoint upholstery throughout. The chair showcases a shaped camelback crest rail with carved floral rosettes, scrolling padded arms with acanthus carving, fluted tapering legs, and finely executed neoclassical detailing throughout the frame.
The upholstery is especially charming, with romantic pastoral needlepoint scenes depicting courting figures and idyllic countryside imagery rendered in soft muted tones of cream, sage, blush, and faded gold. The large central reserve to the back features an 18th-century-inspired Rococo vignette framed by floral garlands and ribbon swags, while the seat cushion depicts sheep grazing in a pastoral landscape. Side panels continue the decorative narrative with coordinating floral and ribbon motifs.
The frame retains a warm distressed gilt and painted finish with lovely age and patina, complementing the faded tapestry upholstery beautifully.
