The Carlo Hauner & Martin Eisler ‘Reversível’ Lounge Chair by Forma Móveis, Brazil, 1950 is a Brazilian Icon of Sculptural Functionality. This extraordinary ‘Reversível’ lounge chair, designed by Carlo Hauner and Martin Eisler stands as one of the most iconic and innovative pieces in Latin American modernist design. Celebrated for its sculptural elegance and ingenious versatility, the Reversível chair is both a functional marvel and a design statement. The defining feature of this chair lies in its adjustable, reversible seat, which rests freely within the metal frame; allowing for a wide range of seating positions. Whether used as a traditional lounge chair, a sideways recliner, or an upright high-back seat, the chair adapts effortlessly to personal comfort and space. This radical flexibility was decades ahead of its time and remains unmatched in both concept and execution. The slender black-painted solid steel frame is paired with solid brass feet, giving the piece an airy yet refined presence. The seat and backrest have been newly upholstered in a vibrant orange Hallingdal fabric by Kvadrat, staying true to the chair’s mid-century spirit while offering updated durability. The foam has also been renewed to ensure both form and comfort for daily use. The frame carries a gentle, honest patina, with minor restorative work to preserve its integrity and character. We currently have two additional examples available, still in their original state, ready to be reupholstered in a fabric of your choice, offering a rare opportunity to create a perfectly matched pair or trio. A true collector’s piece and a staple of Brazilian design history, the Reversível chair is not only a visual delight but a tactile and interactive experience, intelligent, sculptural, and unapologetically modern.
