An elevated example of Chinese blue-and-white ceramics, this large, footed dish is brushed with deep cobalt underglaze atop a celadon-toned field. Dated to the early 19th century, the plate is hand-painted with a popular Qing-dynasty motif of ducks and lotus flowers, a motif for success or for passing the civil service exam.
The charger is finished with a scalloped rim and painted borders of trailing vines and chrysanthemums, a symbol of longevity. With its fine artistry and hidden meaning, the antique plate makes for a special gift for a graduation or promotion
