The form draws from classical and mythological ornament, with bold paw feet, winged griffin-style supports, and deeply sculpted acanthus decoration creating a dramatic architectural presence.
Each stand is raised on three powerful animal-form legs with clawed feet, supporting a central column decorated with scrolling foliage and a rounded upper urn form. The circular tray top is simple and beautifully proportioned, allowing the sculptural base to remain the focus. The bronze has a dark aged patina that gives the pair depth, richness, and a wonderful sense of history.
Originally intended for oil lamps, these stands can be used today in many elegant ways: as raised supports for pillar candles, crystal rose bowls, small vases, or floral arrangements. They also make striking decorative risers, adding height and antique character to a mantel, console, buffet, or dining table.
