‘One of a Kind’ Chair designed by Richard Hutten and manufactured by Hidden in The Netherlands 1999. This striking and architectural chair is a unique piece from the One of a Kind series created by Richard Hutten for the short-lived Dutch design company Hidden. The series consisted of a high chair, a low chair, a matching table, and a coffee table. Hidden launched ambitiously in 1999 with a collection of experimental, forward-thinking designs, but went bankrupt shortly after its start. As a result, only a handful of these pieces were ever produced, and they rarely come to market. This chair comes directly from the original Hidden stock and has essentially never been used. The chair is made of anodized aluminum with a plastic core, a combination that provides both strength and contrast. The open, grid-like sides give the piece a strong architectural presence, while the sharply defined angles and clean lines reflect a minimalist, engineered aesthetic. Although industrial in character, this design was never industrialized or mass-produced due to the company’s early bankruptcy. The lightweight construction makes the chair surprisingly easy to handle, while the geometry gives it a commanding sculptural presence. This piece embodies a particular moment in late-1990s Dutch design, when designers pushed material boundaries and experimented with new production techniques. The structure is assembled through pressing and riveting, emphasizing both the rawness of its making and its precision. Includes an original Hidden leaflet from 1999 as well as an original photo of the Hidden Booth at Salone die Mobile in Milan, 2000. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
