Conceived as a modular chess game, the set transcends its playful function to become an actionable structural system: the individual pieces, through a precise interlocking mechanism, reassemble into a compact cube with a strong plastic presence. The act of assembly reveals the constructive logic of the work, transforming play into architecture on a domestic scale. The composition alternates golden bronze for the black pieces and silver bronze for the white pieces, creating a refined dialogue between mass and light. The surfaces show a patina consistent with the period and slight signs of use on the silvering, which do not compromise the aesthetic quality or formal legibility of the whole. The proposed specimen is signed and numbered 153/1000. It is complete with original wooden box, instruction sheets and assembly key-an equipment rarely preserved in its entirety and of special collector's significance. Produced in a limited edition of one thousand, "Checkmate" is now sought after by collectors of 1970s Italian design, fans of modular objects and scholars of the intersection of conceptual art and industrial design.
