A refined charming pair of stamped Jacob and Josef Kohn for Mundus Viennese bent beechwood side chairs from the Art Nouveau period of the early 20th century made in Austria. The chairs feature rare sculptural back crests and an elegant lyre-form center splat. The steam-bent beech forms a light but resilient frame, finished in a warm honey or amber tone. The decorative, graceful fiddlehead shaped scrolling present the pair as an elevated version of the more common Thonet No. 14 chair with Vienna secession influences. Caned seats provide a visual lightness and lend to the authentic Viennese Café bistro style of the chairs. Curved under-seat arch bracing provides rigidity and stability while keeping the airy profile. J. J. Kohn stamps are underneath the seats along with some of the original tags. The chairs are sturdy with solid construction in well preserved condition having a desirable aged patina as seen in photos. No label.
