This type of bowl was traditionally used for mixing and kneading dough or other preparations. The piece has been hand-hollowed from solid wood and has a beautifully aged, dark patina.

Dimensions: height 13 cm, diameter 67.5 cm.

The bowl has a wide, low shape with a warm organic presence. The visible wood grain, deep brown colour and irregular rim give the piece a strong mingei and wabi-sabi character. Around the outside of the rim, faded hand-painted Japanese calligraphy is still visible — a beautiful trace of its former use that adds depth and authenticity.

Thanks to its generous size, this kibachi works particularly well today as a decorative object: as a fruit bowl, nut bowl, magazine bowl, floral display or simply as a sculptural wooden interior accent.

Condition: beautiful antique condition with clear signs of age, wear, discoloration and traces of use consistent with age and function; solid, authentic and highly decorative. See less
