When I design a new piece of furniture, I always start with ergonomics, so this big lounge chair is ultra comfortable. I've given it angles, curvatures, and dimensions suitable for a large person but smaller ones are happy too!

The Íkonos chair has a Neo-Adirondack character that's entirely au courant but has a memory so it can live happily in a modernist or an eclectic environment.

It's a prototype made for a collection that never went into production, so it's one-of-a-kind.

It's made of Cedrela odorata wood (Spanish cedar), a species that grows so prolifically in Central America and northern Latin America that it's often used in reforestation projects. Its aroma, sadly, can never survive the wood's curing. It was then stained to look like walnut, with its arms, legs, and frame painted black to enhance the mellow glow of the walnut.

One of the features that viewers are always especially attracted to is the steel spacers that are inserted between the back's slats, near their tops. There's a rod drilled through all the slats to keep them firmly aligned. A spacer is then threaded onto the rod between each pair of slats. The rod does not push through the sides of the two outermost slats, so it remains hidden. Check out the detail image in my photos (#7). See less
