Alessandro Pianon [b. 1931, d. 1984] (sometimes misspelled as Pianan) was an influential Italian designer and glass artist, best known … Read more Alessandro Pianon [b. 1931, d. 1984] (sometimes misspelled as Pianan) was an influential Italian designer and glass artist, best known for his whimsical and distinctive glass bird sculptures made for the Vistosi glassworks in Murano during the 1960s. In 1956, Pianon began working with Vistosi, where he became the artistic director. His most famous creations were the Pulcino birds—small, colorful, stylized glass birds made using Murano techniques, often with metal legs. These pieces are highly collectible today and are seen as iconic examples of playful, modern Murano glass design from the postwar era.
