The exterior is adorned with crisp repoussé decoration—stylized rosettes, fan motifs, and starbursts—framed by a scalloped upper edge and complemented by elegant scrolled side handles. The shaped backplate, similarly embossed, rises gracefully above the body, both decorative and functional in its original fireside use.

The interior retains its original metal liner, now showing expected oxidation and wear consistent with age and use, while the reverse reveals the underlying iron construction. The contrast between the warm, polished brass exterior and the timeworn interior lends the piece a beautiful sense of authenticity and patina.

Originally intended for storing coal beside the hearth, this piece now lends itself equally well as a decorative accent—ideal as a planter, kindling holder, or sculptural fireside object.
