Offered is a mid 20th century folding wood chess board/case and complete set of House of Staunton chess pieces. Staunton is the iconic British chess set maker, in existence since 1849. The board may not be from Staunton, but the pieces bear all the markings and profiles of their original sets, and appear to be boxwood. The case is lined with a thin short velvet in a deep emerald green, and the pieces have bottle green felt pads. The hardware is decorative brass.
The box measures 16.5" long, 8.25" wide, 3.5" deep when closed, and 16.5" square and 1.75" deep when opened.
The pieces measure 1.25" to 1.5" base diameter, and range from 2.625" tall for the pawns to 4.875" tall for the king,
