A 19th Century French Napoleon III marquetry box, hand-crafted of walnut and burl veneers and ebonized panels. Fine mother-of-pearl and brass inlay decoration of birds, butterflies and flowers. The interior is lined in magenta purple silk and the inside of the lid is tufted. Working lock and small key. Good craftsmanship, similar to the fine quality boxes made by Tajan. In good condition with some losses. Silk is a bit worn, faded and threadbare. Circa 1880-1900.
