A large-scale stoneware charger by Bob and Cheryl Husby (1948-2025). The piece features a high-contrast monochromatic surface utilizing the Mishima technique: The abstract and graphic motifs are incised into the white clay body and filled with black slip, creating a sharp, structural design. The platter is signed on the reverse, which also includes detailed patterning. The platter is substantial and striking enough to be a stand-alone sculptural art piece, but it will also work well as functional art on a large island or table top.
This piece represents the Husbys' exhibition-grade gallery work at the height of their collaborative career, distinct from their functional salt-glazed production. Following Cheryl Husby’s passing in 2025, large-scale exhibition pieces of this caliber have become increasingly rare and are an excellent addition to any collection of late 20th-century studio pottery.
