Executed in … Read more A powerful and refined pair of Brazilian modern armchairs produced by Liceu de Artes, dating to the 1960s. Executed in solid Brazilian rosewood (jacarandá), the chairs exemplify the institution’s emphasis on masterful woodworking, structural clarity, and enduring craftsmanship.

The frames display exceptional sculptural quality, with expressive arms, tapered legs, and a beautifully resolved backrest that highlights the natural elegance of the wood. Recently refinished, the original jacarandá reveals richly varied, colorful veining—an increasingly rare characteristic that underscores both the quality of the material and the integrity of the restoration.

The chairs have been newly upholstered in a luxurious, super-soft white bouclé, offering a contemporary counterpoint to the warmth and density of the rosewood. The contrast between tactile softness and architectural structure enhances both comfort and visual balance, making the pair equally compelling as functional seating and sculptural objects.

The armchairs present in excellent vintage condition. The wood has been carefully restored, and the upholstery is new, with minor age-appropriate signs of wear consistent with their period.
