Handsome early 20th century antique silver-plated crumb catcher crafted by Harrison Fisher & Company of Sheffield England (1897-1925). This piece is beautifully crafted with a carved wooden handle. Also known as a crumb scoop or “silent butler”, the crumb catcher became popular as a dining accessory during the Victorian era and remained in active use through the early 20th century. It was used to discreetly sweep crumbs from a tablecloth or table top. Such tools are still used in restaurants, particularly fine-dining and high-end establishments, to clean tables without disrupting guests.
Authenticating hallmarks are found on the underside of the scoop and top of the handle. The piece is electroplated nickel silver with an “A1” designation, a hallmark indicating the best or highest standard of plating thickness.
