Bernhard Block, prominent mid 19th - early 20th Century ceramicist artist based in Hohenstein, Bohemia (not Czech Republic). HIs factory was founded in 1869 and was highly regarded for producing expressive Art Nouveau and Art Deco ceramic pieces.
Design Era:
Model numbers in the 7000 series date to a production period 1900-1915. This aligns with the transition from the fluid lines of Art Nouveau to the more structured form of the early Deco period. This figure was known as the "Windy Day" "Colpo di Vento" which was a popular motif for the artist. Capturing a young woman holding her dress as if caught in a sudden breeze.
Cream skin tones, soft green dress, brown base, all glazed in soft green/blue glaze.
Terracotta or earthenware finished with a polychrome glaze giving it a luminous porcelain appearance. Signed BB with model number 7426.
