Genji, The Shining Prince: a 19th Century Woodblock Print by Utagawa Kunisada .
This beautifully colored and highly detailed woodblock print depicts a scene from
Chapter 27 of the Tale of Genji. The Chapter is known as Kagaribi" or "The Flares."
The colors are vibrant in this print and the fabric patterns and faces are beautifully rendered.
Utagawa Kunisada’s life (1786-1864) spanned much of the 19th century. This print on paper was published by Izumiya Uchibei, active until 1886.

We have never taken it out of the frame so we have not examined the back. less
