A charming contemporary naïve style painting, executed in oil onto panel by British artist Matt Rix.

The composition presents a leopard in profile, moving gently across a simplified landscape. Set against a muted grey sky with faint, stylised clouds, the figure strides along a deep green ground, evoking a calm and contemplative mood.

Rendered in a contemporary naïve style, the work embraces flat perspective and bold simplification. The leopard is defined by clean outlines and slightly exaggerated proportions, while depth is suggested through simple bands of colour, enhancing its graphic clarity and appeal.

The palette is warm and harmonious. Golden yellows and soft creams of the leopard’s coat are punctuated by rhythmic black spots, set against the cool grey background and deep green foreground for gentle contrast.

British artist Matt Rix spent his childhood in South Africa and now lives with his family on a small holding in rural North Wales. His paintings are uncomplicated, modernist representations influenced by primitive and naïve folk art from times past. Many of the subjects Rix paints are inspired by the animals he sees from day to day. Rix uses recycled materials including discarded paints, boards, frames and backing paper. Much of his work is therefore produced using waste materials resulting in sustainable paintings that evoke a time-worn, nostalgic essence.
