Perhaps the most striking aspects of this pair of low tripodal pedestals are the three lion paw feet. Beautifully hand-carved in walnut during the late 1800s, the Italian pedestals are perfectly symmetrical and ornate, which are standards of Baroque style furniture.
The triangular abacus, with its angular, canted corners and edges adorned with partial niches, sits perfectly atop the tripartite base below. Directly beneath each canted corner is a large volute that also aligns with the paw feet that are beneath large, curled leaves. In between the well-carved foliage is a cabochon set within volute molding with crinkled ribbon tendrils. The walnut has been bleached more recently, which truly allows the majestic carvings to gain prominence and gives the pedestals a beige hue with brown and yellow accents.
It is fitting that the feet are lion paws, as they symbolize strength, and these low pedestals are capable of supporting statues, candelabras, or vases. Our pedestals are also quite versatile and could be used as side tables, or plant stands in a living room, library, or even a bedroom. They would also make unique footstools for a pair of armchairs or even highly-carved supports for a coffee table.
