Moba tchitcheri are highly abstracted, minimalist wooden figures carved by the Moba people of northern Togo and Ghana to represent ancestors and protective spirits. Prescribed by diviners for health and prosperity, these sacred, often faceless sculptures are carved by specialized artists and range from small, personal shrine figures to large, earth-planted clan markers. This piece is known as a Sakwa tchitcheri representing founding ancestors of a clan and often planted in the ground.
