The design is heavily inspired by the works of Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier (1695–1750), the leading innovator of the Rococo style The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Each candlestick features an asymmetrical, twisting stem characterized by dramatic C-curves and S-curves, flowing seamlessly into a broad, shaped foot decorated with acanthus leaves and scrolled motifs.
