The figurine is a nice larger size, measuring approx. 12 3/4 inches tall, 5 inches wide and 4 inches deep. Czech, Duchcov, late 19th to early 20th Century. Neo-classical, Art Nouveau, Porcelain. Figurine depicts valiant woman holding sledgehammer in her right hand with her left hand rested on her hip. Her face displays tiredness and perhaps a bit of sadness, but simultaneously strength & defiance. She is wearing a gold crown with blonde hair tied up into a bun, flowing loose-fitted green and gold dress with exposed right leg propped up on an anvil. The woman stands atop a Greco-Roman stylized plinth platform with an industrial gear motif. At foot is a raised Royal Dux triangular symbol with a clock hand pointing up. The underside of the base is marked with an impressed, "265" model number and a handwritten, "10" in red underglazed ink. A bit unusual to be missing the raised pink triangle mark on the underside, yet confidently attributed to Royal Dux, nonetheless. Excellent antique condition. No chips or cracks. Shows minor wear commensurate with age. See photos. Displays influentially eloquent!

Possibly depicting the Etruscan goddess Athrpa, the counterpart of the Greek fate goddess Atropos. Athrpa usually depicted holding a hammer in her right hand and a nail in her left. In addition to the Greek Mythology influence, the figurine likely represents labor feminism, a woman's labor rights movement in the early 20th Century. Regardless, a lovely depiction of both feminine strength & beauty. See less
