We believe it to be one … Read more This surreal landscape etching is a work by German artist, Kurt Schönen, (b. 1945). We believe it to be one of a series of prints titled "Surreal Mountain". This edition is numbered either #93/100 or #93/180 (poor legibility). It is numbered in pencil, lower left and signed in pencil by the artist and dated 1976, lower right. It is wonderfully presented in a (purposely) distressed silver leaf clad frame with glazing and a wide, white linen liner with matching silver tone inner frame around the image. En verso are gallery notes identifying the artist and additional notation which we interpret to be ownership information.

Representation of the artist in the U.S. is through a NY gallery. His artist page shares the following biographical information, "Kurt Schönen was born in 1945 in Büdingen, Upper Hesse, Germany. He attended the Arts and Crafts School in Krefeld from 1969–1971. The earliest examples of his etchings and oil paintings are from 1971. He is known for mostly for his etchings, with works focusing on the aesthetic and seemingly tangible reality of objects. From 1972 to 1985, he had a studio in Worpswede. Currently, Schönen lives and works in Berlin.".
