A handsome French Louis XV style fauteuil (open armchair) with a hand-carved walnut-toned hardwood frame and original tapestry upholstery depicting a romantic 18th-century pastoral courting scene in the manner of François Boucher. A reclining couple in period dress is set within a wooded landscape with a stone urn, framed by gilt-toned rococo cartouches, scrolling acanthus, and floral garlands. The same scene appears on both the seat and the back, with smaller floral tapestry sections wrapping the padded armrests.
The frame features the classic vocabulary of the Louis XV style: a serpentine cartouche-shaped backrest crowned with a carved floral cresting, scrolled open arms with manchettes, a shaped apron with a central shell motif, and gracefully curved cabriole legs ending in scrolled toes. Antiqued brass nailhead trim outlines the upholstery throughout in a clean double row at the back.
Made in the United States in the mid-20th century. The original interior tag reads "LIC. NO. N.Y. 3193" with a "FOAM-RUBBER" cushion designation, dating the chair to roughly the 1960s–1970s. A versatile statement piece — equally at home as an accent chair, a vanity chair, a desk chair, or part of a Grandmillennial / French country / traditional interior.
